Traffic calming measures needed

Dear editor:

Thank you to Mr. Dick Byford for his letter to the editor June 5. We have been residents on River Road for more than 20 years, and can attest to the fact that noisy motorcycle traffic has steadily increased over the years. River Road attract bikers like a manure pile does flies. This is understandable: It is a long, hilly, winding road with few crossroads and little traffic. As residents, we should request traffic-calming measures along the road. Speed bumps is just one of a number of such devices. Many European countries have implemented far more drastic and very effective measures. Motorcycle noise pollution is the biggest problem. Why do we allow that? It is totally unnecessary, except to provide biker self-gratification.
