Glenbrook Elementary students fight against cancer

Proving there is no age requirement when positively impacting your world, grade one student of Glenbrook Elementary, Viola Brown at just six years old helped to raise close to $2000 towards the fight against Cancer by challenging kids in her school to donate their long hair to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths Program and the HairUWear Company who make beautiful high quality women's wigs for those who have lost their hair to cancer.

On June 27th, the last day of school, the youngsters at Glenbrook Elementary took up Viola Brown's challenge and in addition to the money raised, 14 hair donations were made to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program.

The big question that Brown answered as to what inspired her to create the event that would help so many was a simple answer. “I was with my mom and dad and we saw a boy and he didn't have hair. I asked my mom why he didn't have hair. She told me the answer. When I got home I cut my hair and brought it to my mom and asked her to give it to the boy.”

A true, kind, selfless, and generous Brown, after surprising her parents with that act, asked her parents if she could raise money, do more.

While her hair grew back, Brown, supported by parents, was on a mission to raise money as she went into local businesses, asked people at her soccer games, and then decided to ask her teacher, Mrs. Faye O'Connor if her school could help.

Jumping into action, O'Connor helped to organize the event. The spirit of giving was infectious and inspiring. Brown did note cutting hair with her parent's permission this time round was much better than without!

Brown single handedly raised an astounding $750 towards the fight to end Cancer. We can only wonder what will happen when Brown turns 7!

Glenbrook Elementary students ended the school year with shorter hair and the knowledge they go forth into summer holiday's having positively impacted the world in which live.
