We can get back in this game,” said coach George Linger after the first inning that saw the Leafs end with a four run lead. The Cubs did rally, with a hard drive down the third base line from Tyler Linger for a double, followed up by a dinger to shallow centre field from Logan Wallace that brought in to runs to make it a 4–2 game. Ivy scored a single run in the second inning after a batter drove a runner to third, then finished with another single that brought in the run. The big inning for the Cubs was number five when Wallace hit a line drive between first and second base that put two men on base for Mansfield. Jarrett Abbott drove in a run on the next at-bat on a hard drive past first base that left Cubs players on first and third. The bases were loaded when the batter batter was hit by the pitch and took the walk. The Cubs closed the gap on a well placed hit by Lance Bryan that dropped just past second base and brought in another run to make it a 5–4 game. Power hitter Rob Kinsley got his third home run of the season in the sixth inning when he dropped the ball over the left field fence for a single run homer that tied the game at five. The Leafs took back the game in their final at-bat with a single run homer from Jeremy Uylenbroek and a shallow blooper into centre field that brought in a second run to make it a 7–5 game. With one more chance at the plate, the Cubs retired the with no hits and had to take the loss. The Cubs will have three road games against Midland, Barrie, and Angus, before returning to Mansfield for a home game against the Midland Indians Saturday, July 19.
