Cubs win over Giants

The Mansfield Cubs rallied in the fourth inning of Wednesday's NDBL game against the Orangeville Giants to take a four run lead after being down 2–0 at the end of the first inning.

After going into a deficit, the Cubs shrugged off the early Giants lead indicating they had plenty of time to get back into the game – and they did.

Logan Wallace started off the comeback with a double to right field. That was followed up by a single from Jarrett Abbott that set up the field with Cubs players on first and second base. Another single from T.J. Linger loaded the bases with no men out, and Bill Little brought in the first run on a hit that lit up the Cubs side of the scoreboard.

With the pressure on the Giants to respond, an errant pitch hit the batter and the Cubs tied the game on the walk. With the bats working well, Bill Hawkins kept it up with a line drive to centre field that bought enough time to bring in two more Mansfield runs.

The hit of the night happened next when Lance Bryan cleared the bases with a two-run home run over the left field fence to end the inning with the Cubs taking a 6–2 lead.

The Cubs' defensive posturing shut down the Giants for the rest of the game and the sixth inning ended with no hits by either team. The Cubs claimed the win on a Giants fly ball to short centre field that ended the game.

The win leaves the Cubs in ninth place in the NDBL with a 5–8–4 record.

Returning to the diamond in Mansfield this Saturday (July 19) the Cubs will host the Midland Indians.

The first pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
