Dufferin ‘Diabetees’ Day of Champions raises $41K




Many children with Type I Diabetes will get to go to D-Camp, a children's camp run by the Canadian Diabetes Association designed especially for kids with Type I Diabetes. Locally well known professional golfer and Ambassador for the Canadian Diabetes Association, David Markle spearheaded the promotional event, Dufferin Diabetees Day of Champions held at Shelburne Golf & Country Club, owned and operated by Sam Young. The event occurred on July 28th. Money was raised with the help of many volunteers,9 professional hockey players, 8 professional golfers, children with Type I Diabetes who shared their stories, and with the help Mike Durland of Scotiabank's matching incentive program, the event brought in a whopping, $41,382.98!
Markle himself lives with Type I Diabetes and knows the challenges involved during daily life. Hoping to reach out to kids and inspire them to thrive while living with Type I Diabetes is a goal he is truly accomplishing by helping kids get to D-Camp.
