What’s happening in Violet Hill?

Dear editor:
I wonder if someone could give me any information on the status of the Violet Hill gas station. My family owned it for 18 years in the 60's and 70's. I am saddened by the Google pictures after eight years since it has burned down. Why is it still an empty lot? Why has someone not attempted to re-open it? If I had the money I'd do it in a heart beat.
Violet Hill was a wonderful place to grow up, I graduated from the last class that attended school there, Mrs. Mitchell was my teacher.
I do see the property is listed for sale for $349,900, plus the site would obviously need to be cleaned and old fuel tanks removed. All told, to restructure the gas station and residence it would cost about a million dollars, I assume. Is that what the property in Violet Hill is worth these days?
I also understand that there has been a petition started demanding a clean-up of the site since the fire, as the fuel tanks in the ground must be causing environmental issues plus there is an oil furnace in ground that used to heat the store.
There must be an explanation why this has been sitting for eight years.
