Royals rally to tie game five

The Centre Dufferin District High School Royals baseball team showed their mettle with a come from behind rally that saw them tie their game with the St. James Lions on Wednesday, October 1, at Princess of Wales Park in Orangeville.
Hurler Josh Johnston started off on the mound for Centre Dufferin.
In the second inning the Royals scored two runs when Michael Fuller hit a double to drive in a run, then advanced to third base on an error.
Follow up batter Ty Doney got on base with a single and Fuller made the charge on the hit beating the throw to home plate to score.
The Royals faltered in the third and fourth innings getting no hits but allowing the St. James squad to tie it up then go ahead on a couple of Royals errors that put the pressure on CDDHS to get back into the game.
It was the fifth inning that saw the Royals get their bats working again led off by Doney who cracked a beautiful ball right over second base then followed up by stealing second base.
A single by Stephen Falls placed runners on first and third, and second base steal by Falls put the Royals in scoring position.
Centre Dufferin scored when Ryan McLean notched a blistering hit over third base that dropped short in left field to allow another Royals run.
The St. James team had their work cut out for them in the top of the sixth when they loaded the bases but couldn't capitalize on the situation and the side retired with no runs scored.
Trailing 5–4 in the bottom of the sixth, the Royals tied it up when Jake Currie hit to deep centre for a double, then made it to third base and scored on the next play to even the tally on the scoreboard.
The St. James squad knew they gave up the win in the final inning when they had two men on base and a 2–2 count on the batter and the inning ended with a strike-out that eliminated their chance of a win.
The Royals had to settle for a respectable tie game when they failed to get a man on base in the final at-bat.
The tie leaves the CDDHS team with a 2–2–1 record with one more regular season game left on the schedule.
The Royals will be going to the playoffs in Guelph to vie for the top spot in Division 4.
