DCMA curator, Wayne Townsend, retires

The evening of Saturday, October 4th marked a new beginning of sorts for Wayne Townsend, long time Curator of Dufferin County Museum and Archives. What can only be described as standing room only, droves of well wishers, friends, family and loved ones turned out to wish Townsend a wonderful retirement.
So well respected as an individual even Caterers offered their services for free to commemorate the deeply emotional occasion over flowing with well deserved and earned admiration for Townsend. This charismatic individual can be described as a person well loved, cared for by all who knew him, well endowed with a keen, quick witted sense of humor, and the ability to bring history alive with every articulate speech, binding the present with the past, forever preserving our favorite tales for the future.
Wenda Montgomery, Townsend's sister, noted with pride and admiration, “Wayne is such an integral part of the community and was instrumental in designing this museum as well as acquiring funding.”
Also embarking upon retirement from Public office as Mayor of Shelburne, Ed Crewson commented, “Wayne Townsend has been very effective at raising our collective appreciation and awareness of Dufferin County's colorful history. He has also been able to inspire, mobilize and manage the many dedicated volunteers and donors upon whom the Dufferin County Museum and Archives depends. I wish Wayne all the best in his retirement and thank him for his dedicated service to the County of Dufferin.”
After 26 years of dedication to the communities of Dufferin County, Townsend will stay on as a Fund Raising Board Member. Sarah Robinson, new Curator of Dufferin County Museum and Archives will have big shoes to fill and Dufferin County looks forward to her legacy with welcome arms.
Ironically,Townsend can now be added to the very special list of interesting people of Dufferin County which he created.
The Shelburne Free Press wish Townsend the brightest of futures as he embarks on yet another interesting life journey, retirement.
