Spartans XI opens cricket tournament at KTH Park with 107-run win over SSCC TitansSpartans XI opened the Dufferin Cricket Club (DCC)–New Tecumseth Cricket Club (NTCC) Intercity Tournament with a 107-run victory over the Shelburne Sports and Cultural Club (SSCC) Titans at KTH Park on Saturday. Shelburne Strikers followed with a six-wicket victory over the Titans on Sunday, while Brampton Warriors defeated NTCC Alliston Panthers by 41 runs in Beeton on Saturday. Jointly organized by DCC and NTCC, the tournament features five teams: Shelburne Strikers, Spartans XI, SSCC Titans, Brampton Warriors and NTCC Alliston Panthers. The tournament runs from Aug. 15 to Oct. 4, with matches being played at KTH Park in Shelburne and Mel Mitchell Field in Beeton. Teams compete through the league stage before the tournament moves toward its knockout rounds. At Mel Mitchell Field on Saturday, Brampton Warriors scored 143 all out in 18.4 overs before dismissing NTCC Alliston Panthers for 102 in 18.4 overs. Lovepreet Singh scored 33 from 15 balls, including two fours and three sixes, while Harinder Singh made 23 from 13 balls and Sahil Kumar contributed 27 from 27 deliveries. For Alliston, Maruthi Pranav Guddati took 4/17 from four overs, Rattan RT claimed 3/20, Dilraj Singh took 2/19 and Rajan Firozpur took 1/33. Alliston's chase was led by Rattan RT, who scored 31 from 30 balls. Captain Vikas Jaiswal was dismissed in the opening over. Sukhnaib Singh Sidhu took 4/9 from four overs for Brampton. Lovepreet Singh took 2/14 and Pargat Singh took 2/22. Brampton won by 41 runs. At KTH Park, Spartans XI scored 176/7 from 20 overs before bowling SSCC Titans out for 69 in 13 overs. Manjinder Singh scored 50 from 41 balls, including five sixes, while Anush Singh made 27 from 18 deliveries. Captain Saurav Bedi scored 52 from 29 balls, including three fours and five sixes, at a strike rate of 179.31. The Titans conceded 30 extras, including 25 wides. The Titans lost five wickets while scoring only one additional run, falling to 3/5. Dirgh Patel, Harmanpreet Singh, Jainish Patel, captain Mohnish Pathan and Harman Panaich were dismissed during the sequence. Himanshu Thakur scored 27 from 21 balls, while Neel Nanavati made 14. Bedi took 3/10 from three overs, Sarpreet Athwal took 3/21 and Anush Singh took 2/8. The Titans were dismissed for 69, giving Spartans XI a 107-run victory. Bedi was named Player of the Match after scoring 52 runs, taking three wickets and completing a catch. On Sunday at KTH Park, SSCC Titans were bowled out for 62 in 13 overs before Shelburne Strikers reached 66/4 in 10.3 overs. Harmanpreet Singh scored 9 from 10 balls and Neel Nanavati made 7. Vivek Sharma top-scored with 13 from 17 deliveries, while Pushkar P contributed seven. The Titans also received 16 extras. Harshal Patel took 4/19 from four overs for the Strikers, dismissing Harmanpreet Singh, Kulvir Tiwana, Harman Panaich and Himanshu Thakur. Meet Chaudhari took 2/17 from three overs, while captain Onkar Sharan took 2/2 from one over. Umavenkat Karanam took 1/9 from three overs and Shafi Kazi conceded 11 runs from two overs. The Titans went from 42/4 to 62 all out, losing their final six wickets for 20 runs. Patel was named Player of the Match. In the chase, Amit Maurya was run out for one before Gurpreet Singh scored an unbeaten 33 from 30 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Jaspreet Mandair scored 10 from nine balls, including a six, while Shafi Kazi remained unbeaten on four from two deliveries. The Strikers reached 66/4 in 10.3 overs to win by six wickets with 57 balls remaining. The result gave Shelburne Strikers a net run rate of +3.186. After the opening weekend, Spartans XI, Shelburne Strikers and Brampton Warriors each have one win and two points. Spartans XI lead the standings with a net run rate of +5.350, followed by Shelburne Strikers at +3.186 and Brampton Warriors at +2.050. NTCC Alliston Panthers are fourth with no points and a net run rate of -2.050, while SSCC Titans are fifth after two losses, with a net run rate of -4.659. Saurav Bedi scored 52 runs and took three wickets for Spartans XI, while Harshal Patel took 4/19 for Shelburne Strikers and Sukhnaib Singh Sidhu took 4/9 for Brampton Warriors. Lovepreet Singh scored 33 from 15 balls and took 2/14 for Brampton, while Gurpreet Singh remained unbeaten on 33 from 30 balls for the Strikers. Manjinder Singh scored 50 from 41 balls for Spartans XI. The DCC–NTCC Intercity Tournament 2026 continues with league matches involving Shelburne Strikers, Spartans XI, SSCC Titans, Brampton Warriors and NTCC Alliston Panthers in Shelburne and Beeton. |
