The Shelburne and District Fall Fair is looking for volunteers 16 or over to assist with the inflatable bounces that will bring hours of fun to local kids next weekend.

Fair volunteer in charge of the Kids' Zone, Lindsay Wegener says the activity requires 5-6 people either full day from 10 am – 6 pm or 10 -12 people per day in four hour shifts. She asks that volunteers message her on Facebook.

The fair board has a great line up of activities planned for area youth at the 151st Fall Fair including the giant inflatable bounces. There will be a 55 foot bouncy castle obstacle course, jousting sumo suit wrestling, and a large slide. The cost is $10 per child for an all day pass to the bounces.

Friday evening begins with an opportunity for young people to be part of the Fair Ambassador Competition; an excellent learning experience, whether as a competitor or as a member of the audience. Saturday morning, the fun starts early with bike races and potato sack races followed later by a pedal tractor pull competition. In between races, be sure to fuel up the kids with a delicious pancake breakfast starting at 10am Saturday and Sunday morning.

Ms. Wegener says there will be an Artsploration art bus available both days from 10 am-4 pm; facepainting with henna from 10 am -6 pm on Saturday and 10 am - 5 pm on Sunday; and Jungle Justin is to make an appearance with his exotic creatures.

There will be two bike draws - one on Saturday and one on Sunday. The popular Farmapalooza Petting Zoo is back with a variety of farm animals all weekend, and at 1 pm on Saturday the kids can join in the dog show or Lego competition.

The kids can sign up for the old fashioned egg and spoon race at 12:30 pm Sunday. Following the egg race, there is to be more family fun in the round bale rolling race at 12:45 pm where you can compete as a family, an organization, or enter a team from work. Teams consist of six people pushing a 700 lb round bale down a 100 ft track. The event is back after being so popular at last year's sesquicentennial fair.

For older kids there are a variety of vendors, lawn tractor pulls on Saturday, lawn tractor races on Sunday morning, and the ever popular Crash-Up Derby at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.

Along with all this, there will be beef shows, horse shows, and horse pulls. The exhibit hall will be open and bursting with colourful arts and crafts, flowers, baking, stunning quilts, antique displays and more. As well, be sure to have family visit the Hydro-One Discovery Zone Trailer and the OPP Roll-Over Car.

The Shelburne and District Fair runs from September 14th to 16th with non-stop fun for kids, families and folks of all ages. Remember, the fair operates on volunteer power and is a great opportunity for students to fill up those mandatory community service hours for high school.
