Muskies rally to win over Lucknow

The Shelburne Senior AA Muskies pulled off a huge win on Saturday (Nov. 8) night over the Lucknow Lancers when they tied the game with seconds left, then went on to take the victory in a shoot-out.
After trailing by two goals going into the third period, the Muskies scored to make it a 3–2 game.
With just over a minute left in the third period the Shelburne squad looked like they were done when they were assessed a penalty that left them a man short to end the game.
After a time-out that gave the squad thirty seconds to figure out a plan, the face off in the Shelburne end kept the Muskies goalie in net until the puck was cleared to the Lucknow end.
With :40 seconds left, the Muskies put an extra attacker on the ice to make it a five on five game with an empty net in the Shelburne end.
Shelburne forward Blake Lovell got the tying goal when he slid the puck below the Lancers goalie’s pads with :29 seconds left on the clock.
The game went into a regulation five minute overtime period and with neither side managing to score, the game went to a shoot-out to decide the winner.
The Muskies took the win when they scored 2–0 on the shoot-out.
The Shelburne squad has had some trouble on the road this season but is winning on home ice and backed by a very vocal fan base.
“We definitely come together at home, we’ve got some good fans here,” Said Muskies assistant coach Ed Vienneau, who was acting coach for the game. “In my opinion they’re probably the best fans in the league. We’ve had some tough losses on the road but when we come here we can make things work.”
With less than a minute to get back in the game, the final time-out, Vienneau said, gave the team some time to go over a quick plan.
“The time out, was making sure we were disciplined on our draw. We had a couple of defensive lapses in our own zone. We were making sure the guys were picking up their assignments, and just work out butts off to puck the puck out of the zone.”
Shelburne forward Nick Hodgson said the club didn’t give up even when the got the final penalty that left them short on an already short roster for the night.
“It was a fast paced game and we were short,” Hodgson said. “Everyone stayed in it. No one gave up, it helped a lot. It was pretty tough being short benched. We had two lines and two extras.”
The Muskies will be back on home ice at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex this Saturday, November 15, to host the Durham Thundercats.
The puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
