Royals hockey start regular season

The Centre Dufferin District High School Royals hockey team started the regular season of Division 4/10 high school hockey with a road game and followed up with a home game on Thursday, November 11.
The Royals took a hit on their first outing losing the season opener 8–2 to John F. Ross in Guelph.
Returning to home ice on Tuesday, the CDDHS started out with a good first period and played to a 1–1 tie in a fast paced back and forth game.
The single Royals goal came from forward Michael Fuller on an assist from Steven Falls.
It was the second period that landed the Royals in trouble when the Centennial squad scored four goals late in the frame – the final marker coming on a break away with just eight seconds left on the clock.
“We had moments were we looked good today. It was 1–1 after one, we were hanging in there,” Said coach Steve Stewart, who along with Ryan Stewart coach the team. “We gave up three goals in three minutes in the second period. We just stopped skating. But we’re coming along.”
The squad played well considering the roster has quite a few junior players.
“We’ve got a long way to go. We’ve got seven junior players on the team this year and just five returning guys. We’ve got three grade 12 players and the rest are nine, ten’s, and eleven’s. It will come. We played better today than we did against Ross,” Stewart said.
Royals goalie Eric Johnson did a good job in net, especially in the third period when the Spartans turned up the pressure and played a strong offensive game.
The Royals will play a road game today (Nov. 13) against Bishop Macdonell in Guelph.
They return to home ice at CDRC on Tuesday, November 18, to host St. James.
The game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
