Coming to Shelburne – Compass Community Church

November 19, 2014   ·   0 Comments

Beginning November 30 Compass Community Church will meet each Sunday at 10:00 am at Centre Dufferin District High School in addition to its two services held each Sunday in Orangeville.
For several years the leadership of Compass has been drawn to Shelburne as a possible new location. Emily Banks, who is part of the Compass Shelburne staff, shares, “Compass Community Church has a strong focus on relationship. Since the town of Shelburne is already a strong community, it seems like a natural fit for a Compass location as we share values of community, relationship, and family.
Jay Wagstaff, who has lived in Shelburne for thirteen years and is overseeing the Compass Shelburne location, says “Shelburne is where my wife and I call home. Shelburne is the only home my kids have ever known. We love this community, a place where people still say ‘hello’ to you on the street. But even in a small town people can experience big city problems. People need a relationship with God as they navigate these challenges, and they benefit from the support of others who will walk with them through their joys, as well as through the tough times.”
Compass Community Church’s name represents its directional focus with relationships: upward toward God, inward with each other, and outward with our community and our world. Each Sunday at Compass Shelburne you can expect a similar experience to what Compass Orangeville provides: practical and relevant teaching rooted in God’s Word, music, prayer, and an emphasis on community and home groups. The service will last about an hour and a half, and Compass Kids will also be available on Sundays for children.
“The decision to meet at the high school poses some unique opportunities,” shares Jay. “In order to provide a high-quality Sunday experience we’ve ordered two sixteen foot trailers filled with audio, video, and lighting technology, instruments for a full band, toys, activities, and teaching supplies for the kids, a coffee centre, and more! There are teams of dedicated volunteers in place who will transform the high school to a vibrant meeting place every Sunday morning.”
Starting Sunday, November 30th at 10 a.m., and continuing each Sunday after that, all are invited to attend Compass Shelburne at Centre Dufferin District High School (150 Fourth Avenue). For more details about Compass Community Church and the Shelburne location, visit thisiscompass.com
