Rights for all

Dear editor:
I read in the Creemore Echo of the inaugural meeting of the Mulmur Council. In the article John Franklin said “that thoughtful negotiation and compromise are needed to satisfy the needs of the community”. This was always needed, so the question to be asked is will the acclaimed Deputy Mayor be “curling up in the fetal position” when such negotiation takes place? The Globe and Mail had a number of articles referring to former Liberal Minister Linda Jefferies inaugural meeting when she was sworn in as the Mayor of Brampton. She is quoted as announcing her desire for an Ombudsman review as a result of her concern with the administration of the city. Yet in Mulmur when the administration is questioned as a concern if staff threatens to resign, the returning three members of Council think holding staff accountable is bullying.
There will always be members who have higher standards and expectations. All should be respected and listened to, this is not personality conflict it is accountability and an occasion for compromise.
Janet Horner is quoted as saying “we will do what is right for all the people in Mulmur and not just some”. However in Mulmur “some” individuals receive controversial by law exemptions such as permission for severances from prime agricultural lands and “some” don’t. Will we soon see a severance and sale of the 3rd Line road allowance??? Stay tuned…
