Skate Canada Shelburne seeking new members

December 23, 2014   ·   0 Comments

Learning to skate isn’t just a matter of strapping on the blades and heading out on the ice and trying to keep your ankles straight.
There’s a lot of skill involved and members of Skate Canada Shelburne learn the techniques to make them better figure skaters as well as improve their skills for playing hockey.
Skate Canada is inviting new residents in the area to come out to the arena learn about the program.
“We’re offering free skates for the rest of the season for any first year new members,” Said Dawna Findlay, Skate Canada Shelburne Fundraising co-chair. “We’re inviting new residents in Shelburne to come out to the arena and see what it’s all about.
Along with co-chair Aileen O’Neill, they reach out to the community to help in the fundraising activities for the season.
This year as part of their fundraising efforts they are selling windshield washer fluid and it’s turning out to be a big hit as everyone needs to keep their windshield clean.
Steve Bowles, of Auto Centre Dufferin on Industrial Road in Shelburne donated 40 cases of the washer fluid to the club and they in turn are selling it at the arena based on a suggested donation.
“People have been really generous,” Findlay said. “Some have been giving us $30 and $40 per case.”
The funds raised go to support the program and ice time.
There is still plenty of winter left and the ice will be in the arena for a long time, so if you have any kids with an interest in skating, now is a good time to visit and get signed up for the program.
