CDDHS girls curling battle for a place in the CWOSSA

The Centre Dufferin District High School Royals girls curling team are playing hard to secure a spot in the CWOSSA championships.
The team took part in the Division 4 championships on Tuesday, February 10, at the Shelburne curling club.
Other competing squads were Norwell District Secondary School from Palmerston and Wellington Heights Secondary School from Mount Forest.
The Royals won their first game 11–1 over Norwell, but came up short in the second game taking a 7–4 loss to Wellington Heights.
The loss means they gave up the division championship, but the team will still go on to a CWOSSA qualifying round.
“We made it out of the zones and we made to the regionals but we lost our game today,” Said team Skip, Kaelyn Gregory. “Now we play the ‘B’ side final. If we win, we play the ‘B’ side winner from Guelph. The winner of that goes to CWOSSA.”
Kaelyn, who also plays in high level competition outside of school, said the minor nuances on the ice made a difference in Tuesday’s game.
“The ice was different for us in our first game. We got a handle on it really well, we understood the ice and we could work with it. In the second game it was different and we took a long time to adjust. It was faster, straighter. We had to adjust to that. The other team just got to it faster. Now we have to go out there with a better attitude (for the third game) and bounce back.”
The team now must set their sights on the upcoming qualifying rounds to advance through the next levels of competition.
