Shelburne Library news

April 22, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Snow, this morning! How awful is that just when we were enjoying the lovely balmy weather on the weekend? But no matter, all the more incentive to snuggle down with a good book when there is no real temptation to go outside and garden or whatever recreational activity you choose.
A good time to remind everyone to read, our One Book One County selection, Charlotte Gray’s, The Massey Murder, in preparation for the Grand Finale, where you will meet Charlotte and be able to discuss various aspects of the book.
The Grand Finale is being held on Sunday, May 3 at 2 p.m. in the Grace Tipling Hall. Tickets are $10 each. We have about five left at this point.
Despite the weather, we have quite a number of activities happening here. Cobwebs and Caviar is hosting a machine quilting course in our downstairs KTH room. The fabrics and designs are exquisite.
Our Spanish classes are running Monday and Wednesday nights for 10 weeks…I think we are into our fourth week now and I know the participants are really enjoying the classes and, especially, I hear great praise for our Instructor, Lisa Garber.
Another event we are proud to have in our foyer is the 50th Anniversary Display of the Dufferin Hi-Land Bruce Trail Club, 1965–2015. They held their inaugural meeting here at Shelburne Library and continue to hold monthly meetings throughout the year.
Summer Programs
We have ads running for our Summer Program Assistants elsewhere in the paper. We rely on these young people to help coordinate our excellent summer programs: TD Summer Reading, Teen Focus programs, Seniors programs and this summer we are experimenting with a music program. We have had outstanding support from the students in the past summers… many of you will remember Emily, Melissa, Grace, Lindsay, Lauren and Adam.
Library Literary Event: June 28th at 2 p.m. – British Home Children in Canada
We have the date! Author, Lori Oschefski will be talking about her research and her new book, Bleating of the Lambs to be released June 13, 2015. She will be joined by local resident, Dallas Boudreau, in this presentation. I know this is a topic of great interest and look forward to seeing you all there. Later on in May, we will have tickets available. These are free, but it helps with our planning to know how many folks are coming.
New Books:
We have new children’s books coming in now so be sure to check our website catalogue to check what we have under New Fiction and Non-Fiction. Of course, there will be quite a number of new gardening books over the next few weeks.
