Shelburne by–law reminders

Fires: Open air uncontained fires are not permitted in the Town of Shelburne at any time (some exceptions in relation to agricultural operations). Outdoor fires must be in an enclosed fire pit / chimney at all times. During the summer months further fire restrictions may be imposed. Most fire by-law infractions carry a $90fine. However other provincial and/or criminal charges may also be warranted.
Dogs: All dogs must be contained and controlled on the owners’ property at all times. If a dog is taken off the property it must be controlled on a leash. It is not permitted for a dog to run free anywhere in the town of Shelburne including but not limited to the parks and trails. Further it is not permitted to leave any excrement from a dog on any town property including but limited to sidewalks, trails, parks and wooded areas. Any infractions in regards to these dog by-laws carry a $55 fine. However further charges may be warranted under the Provincial Dog Owners Liability Act.
Off Road Vehicles: No off road vehicles (ATVs, 4 wheelers) are permitted to be operated on any town of Shelburne property including but not limited to roadways, sidewalks, parks, wooded areas and trails. The only trails that these vehicles may be operated on are the marked trails specifically designated for off road vehicle use. Off Road Vehicle By-Law offences can result in fines from $100 to $2000.
Idling: The Town of Shelburne idling by-law states that no vehicle shall be left idling for more than 3 minutes within a 60 minute period. One of the exemptions is if the temperature is above 30 degrees Celsius. An infraction of this by-law carries a $100 fine.
