Register your home security video

Do you have a home security video system? Shelburne Police is inviting you to register it with them.
Home security video systems are becoming more and more popular as their prices come down. They are also becoming easier to use and easier to install.
Shelburne Police has often used video footage from various systems throughout town. The most commonly used footage that assists in police investigations comes from businesses, however on a couple of occasions footage from home security video systems has also been helpful in solving crimes. In a recent case video footage from a victims neighbor’s property caught a suspect skulking around and then leaving the area. This not only helped to provide a description of the suspect, but established an accurate timeline.
Shelburne Police is establishing a database of home security video systems and invites all home owners who have this technology to register it with them. This tool will allow police to more efficiently seek out potential evidence when a crime occurs.
