An update on all our
summer programming…
Library Literary Event – last Sunday, June 28, at 2 p.m. we hosted Lori Oschefski, talking about her book, The Bleating of the Lambs: Canada’s British Home Children. Our audience of 40 plus were quite moved by some of the stories that were presented. Many of our patrons do have some connection to the Home Children so it was of particular interest to them. Both Lori and patron, Dallas Boudreau talked about the personal experiences of their parents who were Home Children. It was fascinating to see the many artefacts that Lori brought- an actual trunk used by one of the children and a documentary that she had made with many photographs illustrating the people and the times.
Summer Programs TD Summer Reading Program – starting Saturday, July 4
Remember only a few days until the launch of the TD Summer Reading Program. Be sure to sign up for a fun filled summer of reading and activities at The TD Summer Adventure Park here at the library. Registration is in the children’s department. You can call us or drop in. We would love to see you.
Story Time – Friday at 10:30 a.m. continues all summer!
This week’s theme is the Monkey. Check out our new addition this year, as we present a French language program of stories, songs and crafts in conjunction with the TD Summer Reading Program.
Paws to Read Program: New hours for summer: Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. starting again on July 15th.
Come and read to Mac. This popular program allows children to read to Mac, the poodle, and share their love of reading. Please sign up as spaces are very limited and they fill up quickly.
Teen Scene
Can you believe the Teen Summer Reading Challenge launched last Thursday, June 25th? We had a terrific response from our teens and look forward to exciting programming this summer. Shortly we will post the calendar of events for both the Teens program and the TD Summer Reading program on our website. We have also planned other exciting events for this summer, including: a “wreck this journal” program (registration required), DIY sushi and pizza, a cupcake war, a murder/mystery evening, yoga, DIY eye shadow, and much, much more. Come in to the Library for more details!
New Happenings
We also had a huge Book Sale in conjunction with the Shelburne Heritage Day last Saturday and raised around $300 for new books. We are especially appreciative of our volunteers, Jim and Diane Worobec and George Barton. Without their amazing help to move and organize the books, we could not have done this.
Another new venture: Thursday at the Shelburne Farmer’s Market started last Thursday. It was gratifying how many folks stopped to chat, picked up a book or two and made a donation in our Take a Book, Make a Donation promotion. We think this will be a terrific way to ensure everyone knows about our Library Services as well as “pass” on some older books.
See you there, just across the street from the library!!
