Children’s Programs:
The TD Summer Reading Program is in full swing at the Shelburne Public Library. There is still time to sign up for the program if you have not already done so. Come in and pick up a calendar detailing all the activities we have planned for July and August. It is a fun time to read at the library! The theme this week is The Pan Am Games which adds to our summer Adventure theme. Join in the fun,
Lego is ongoing both for the younger and older patrons and our Paws to Read is starting up again this Wednesday morning at 10:30. Please call in to register
Teen Scene:
Right now, there is a flurry of activity as the young participants are downstairs learning how to make different food items! Last week we made sushi and some participants said, yuck before they started but once they realized they could make it with all vegetables, they all joined in and had lots of fun. The big highlight of course, was the dessert, a rice Krispie roll with gummy worms. That offset the healthy one. It was all messy but delicious. We also had a successful session creating Zentangle pictures last Thursday, which will be a colourful addition to the library!
This week we made our own pizzas, both regular and dessert! TSRC members voted on their preferred toppings last week, and had a wonderful time dressing their pizzas to eat. While the pizzas were cooking, a noisy round of our version of Balderdash was played.
On Thursday, July 23rd we will be making Dream Catchers. Members will be able to choose between a natural looking specimen and a more traditional example. Registration is preferred so we ensure that enough supplies are available.
As for the Teen Summer Reading challenge, we are now at our half way point! Time is flying by, and without a doubt our teens are keeping busy. Currently, our teens have read for a collective 311 hours!
Market Scene:
We will be at the BIA Shelburne Farmer’s market again this Thursday. It is such a great little market and gives us the opportunity to chat with folks and at the same time, talk about our programs and services. We also have some gently used books for which we just ask a small donation. This is a good way to stock up on your summer reading for the beach, or for travel or you can always borrow your great summer reading books from YOUR library! Each week, I choose special books that I think will appeal to Market goers; we’ve had great cookbooks, some paperback novels, and this week some cute kid’s books. See you there.
