The Shelburne ‘Padova Deli and Bakery’ Muskies gave up a loss to the Ripley Wolves during Saturday’s (Oct. 17) WOAA Senior game at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex in Shelburne.

While fans found it to be an entertaining night of hockey action, the end result wasn’t what they were hoping for when the Wolves scored in overtime to end the game at 5–4.

Ripley’s Drew Davidson scored the winner at three minutes into the overtime period in a two-on-one situation after taking the feed from Tyson Soers.

The Muskies will still bank one point on the overtime loss.

Over all it was an even match-up for the evening with play going back and forth for the full game.

The Muskies opened a 2–0 lead in the first frame – both short-handed goals.

Blake Lovell scored on an assist from Ted Price at 3:31 into the first period. That was followed by a second unassisted goal from Nick Hodgson.

The Wolves closed the gap scoring with 2:44 left in the first then getting the tie goal to make it a 2–2 game with 35 seconds left on the clock.

The Muskies were back in the lead in the second period when Mike Spearing scored on an assist from Blake Lovell for the only goal of the period.

The Wolves were back in the game in the third period on a powerplay effort.

They took the lead for the first time in the game with a short-handed goal with just under seven minutes to play.

The Shelburne squad fought back and tied it up when Chris Greer rifled one over the Wolves goalie’s glove with just over four minutes left on the clock.

The teams exchanged a number of good scoring chances in the remaining minutes but with no winner the teams regrouped and returned for the overtime period.

Shots on goal were even with Muskeis goalie Eddie Davey facing 49 as did the Wolves goalie.

The Muskies picked up six minor penalties and two major fights on the night with the Wolves picking up the same.

The “Podava Deli” catch of the game went to Blake Lovell as he picked up a goal and assist on the night.

The Muskies will host a Friday night game against the Durham Thundercats on October 23.

The puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

They will travel to Lucknow on Saturday, October 24, to face the Lancers with a 7:30 p.m. start.
