It’s Crime Prevention Week in Ontario

November 5, 2015   ·   0 Comments

The Ministry of Safety and Correctional Services, in association with the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police has designated November 1st to 7th as Ontario Crime Prevention Week. The theme for the week is Community Safety and Well-Being – A Shared Commitment in Ontario.
One of the priorities throughout the year at Shelburne Police Service; is crime prevention. This is accomplished in various ways including maintaining a close relationship with both the residential and business community, being visible throughout town, attending the numerous events that take place throughout the year, spending quality time at our schools, conducting presentations at schools and throughout the community, and many other ways.
The businesses and residence of our community can do their part as well. One of the ways is how they notify police of anything they witness or have concerns about. In partnership with our community the police can better prevent or solve crimes.
Remember to always call police immediately…even for minor incidents or simply suspicious situations.
This means immediate notification for even the most minor or simply suspicious events. The sooner police are notified the better chance potential crimes can be averted, potential criminals can be identified and committed crimes can be solved.
Too often people wait for the next morning, or even wait for a chance meeting of an officer to report a suspicious person, car or a minor event. The police work 24 hours a day, seven days a week – and it is never a bother to call them. You never know what information may be the key to solving or preventing a crime so please don’t hesitate to call! Call 9-1-1 for emergencies or when a crime is in progress. Call 519 925-3312 immediately with any less urgent or suspicious information.
Alternatively you can leave an anonymous tip through crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477), or online at www.crimestoppersdm.com
