4th Annual ‘Hockey for Headwaters’ moves to Shelburne

What’s more Canadian than free health care and hockey? Nothing!

On November 21st starting at 7:30 p.m., the 4th Annual ‘Hockey for Headwaters’ will take place at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Centre (Shelburne Arena).

The event is presented by Precise ParkLink and organized by a small committee of hospital staff members. The fundraiser was created by staff as an opportunity for hospital employees to have some off-site fun with one another and show support for both their workplace and their community hospital.

“We had such great success over the past three years, that we planned a fourth one – this time in a new location with some new activities,” event volunteer John Roberto told the Free Press. “Between ticket sales and bake sale proceeds, we donated just over $5,000 to the Hospital foundation last year. We’d like to match, if not beat, that this year and we hope by adding a pre-hockey all ages skate, and a post-game dance, we can reach that goal!”

At the event, local “health care heroes” will go head to head on the ice all in the name of fundraising!

The all ages skate opens at 7:30 p.m. (free for anyone with an event admission ticket and $3 for those just planning to skate).

The puck drops at 8:30 p.m. for Game One: Staff vs. Staff highlighting mixed co-ed teams, immediately followed by the Headwaters Physicians as they battle it out against the Dufferin County Ambulance team.

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Admission is $10 each for those 19+ (includes the dance featuring live band Wasted Measures) or $5 for youth.

Come early, shop the bake sale, and grab a hot drink courtesy of Pete’s Donuts.
