Headwaters Health Care Centre hosted their 4th Annual Hockey Night for Headwaters on Saturday, November 21st, 2015 at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex. A fun and exciting night for everyone that included a bake sale and some free coffee, hot chocolate and other food and refreshments that were kindly donated by No Frills, Foodland, and Pete’s. There was an all age’s skate, two exhilarating hockey games that left you on the edge of your seat, and a dance featuring a live local band, Wasted Measures, for the adults.
This extraordinary tradition started with a group of staff from the hospital, coming together for a little friendly competition in the form of a hockey game. Since they always had an amazing time, they decided to share the experience with others. Over the years it has grown and every year they raise more and more money that goes towards new hospital equipment. Last year approximately $5,000 was raised. The event had its first years at Teen Ranch, but the Hospital staff who organized the event decided to change things up a bit for the sake of keeping things appealing.
This was their first year holding it at the CDRC as well as doing the all ages skate, and the dance.
“After so many years you have to do something different,” said Janet Gordanier, a hospital staff member who helped organize the fundraiser. “It’s fun, you get to do stuff with co-workers out of work. Getting together with the community and having a good time with friends and family.”
Hospital foundation employees took their time to come help set up for the fundraiser. There are a lot of things to be done like putting together the raffle tables, and setting up the dance room, so their time and assistance was extremely appreciated.
A special thanks to all the sponsors, along with Precise Parklink.
Hockey Night for Headwaters had another successful year bringing a new and enjoyable moment to the town of Shelburne. Let’s hope that they decide to share this experience with us here again next year.
