January 15, 2016   ·   0 Comments

The Shelburne fair board will be holding its Annual General Meeting this Friday, January 15th at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held along with a pot luck dinner in the Agricultural Society building at 377 William Street in Shelburne. The fair board says it is “looking for ideas, volunteers, and board members” and everyone is welcome.
Elections will be held Friday night to nominate and vote in the new 2016 board. One of the fair directors, Kimberly Evans says the board is “looking to fill six positions with new directors from among the membership.” All members can vote in the election; anyone who had an exhibitor’s number at the fair is a member.
The outgoing 2015 Board of Directors includes President Bruce Peterson; 1st Vice-President Larry Braiden; 2nd Vice-President Jason Yarwood; Past President Earl Smith; Homecraft President Lindsay Wegener; Homecraft 1st Vice-President & Fair Secretary Sue Peterson; Homecraft 2nd Vice-President Janet Piper; Past President Kelly Montgomery
Directors: Kimberly Evans, Ken Galbraith, Patti Hossie, Diane Johnston, Wade Mills, Nancy Noble, Ken Phillips, James Piper, and Chris Wallace.
The fair board is now planning for the 149th Shelburne and District Fall Fair to take place September 16–18 with the theme “Country Roots and Rubber Boots.” The Agricultural Society is still working on the revitalization of the fairgrounds and the plans for continued work will be discussed with membership Friday night. “So far, we are very pleased with the amazing progress we have made,” says Kimberly Evans.
2017 marks a much anticipated milestone for the fair as it celebrates 150 years. “It is a very momentous occasion for any organization,” says Evans, “and the fact that it coincides with Canada’s Sesquicentennial makes it even more special. We are very excited.”
Advance lists for 2016 are now available on the fair website www.shelburnefair.com for those who want to take advantage of the dark days of winter to start preparing their entries for the following sections: Antiques, Arts & Crafts, Junior Fair, Needlecraft, and Photography. Kimberly Evans sends out a reminder that the deadline for the fair book is March 21, so that it can be printed and ready for distribution in May.
Director Evans says the Agricultural Society is always in need of volunteers. “What community organization isn’t?” she says. “It could not happen without volunteers. But we are in a very positive place and seeing growth and improvement. We are confident in the direction the Fair is heading. Anyone considering volunteering can be assured that we have a lot of fun, and there is an area suitable to their particular interests and skills. If you’re a student and need Community Service Hours, this is a great opportunity. We very much appreciate all our adult volunteers, and new faces are always welcome.”
