Mother Nature throws Shelbrrr Fest organizers a few challenges ahead of Family Day

Last year, the kids of Centennial Hylands were the winners of the Castle Building Contest and an Upper Grand Board approved computer donated by participating sponsors.

This year, the weather is presenting a few challenges to the organizers of the event.

“We are still moving forward with Shelbrrfest,” says Councillor (and festival organizer) Dan Sample, noting all events, except for the tube hill will go on. “The snow castle event for the schools has been the trickiest to put together, but we will be able to get some snow from KTH parking lot.”

The festival team has had to “make some changes to the layout and parking, but we have been able to get that completed.”

February 2015 brought extremely cold temperatures, blue skies and sunshine to the first ever “Shelbrrr Fest” winter carnival, which opened with great success with 400 snow lovers coming to Fiddle Park to join in the frosty fun and events.

The free event is organized with the Kin Clubs of Shelburne.

The organizers have added more events this year, including a new snow ball throw, hosted by Shelburne Minor Ball and a slap shot contest hosted by the Shelburne Muskies.

The event is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Family Day, Monday, February 15, at Fiddle Park in Shelburne; 2nd Line south of No Frills.

“There is snow in the forecast, enough to make it look like winter,” says Dan Sample. “We are so excited this year with the new events even with the lack of snow.”
