It’s cold this week but a spring thaw is coming

April 9, 2016   ·   0 Comments

Spring is quickly approaching and with warmer temperatures, people look forward to getting outdoors.

Warmer temperatures, however, also bring rain, melting snow and shifting ice which can contribute to higher, faster flowing water in waterways.

With more snow in the forecast and swiftly changing temperatures, there is a possibility for localized flooding during the melting period.

Please remember to exercise extreme caution in and around all river, streams and water bodies. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are slippery and, when combined with cold, fast moving water pose a serious hazard.

With both water and air temperatures being cold at this time of year, anyone going into the water could fall victim to hypothermia within minutes.

Keep family members and pets safely away from any water’s edge and help ensure this an enjoyable spring.
