Is Mulmur all about that bass? Vote with air miles

April 15, 2016   ·   0 Comments

Mulmur Township has been selected as one of only five small communities across Canada to be designated as an “Air Miles Detour” finalist, based on their significance to Canadian music history.

Mulmur’s competition for the honour includes: Nelson, British Columbia; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Morin-Heights, Quebec; and Port Hawksbury, Nova Scotia.

Dillon Crosby, the Air Miles Tour Manager for Mulmur told the Free Press, “Mulmur Township was identified for its historic Rock Hill Park and the rock and country festivals that were held there, as well its beauty and tranquility – allowing today’s artists and musicians to create and connect with themselves.”

The inspiration of Air Miles’ “is dedicated to bringing more fun and unique experiences to its members,” says Crosby.

“As part of this vision and to help Canadians celebrate their love of music, Air Miles has partnered with Live Nation to provide collectors more opportunities to enjoy exclusive access to music and events, such as the ‘Detour,’” he says “While celebrating the history of music in Canada, the Detour program is about bringing a global music artist to a small town that wouldn’t normally be on a large concert tour.”

Beginning April 12, Air Miles collectors can visit airmiles.ca/detour and register for the town they want to win. After registering, Mr. Crosby says “every mile received during the month of May, will become an additional vote for the town. Once the winning town is announced, they will be awarded with a special VIP concert, by a Grammy winning artist – in their town.”

That artist is Meghan Trainor.

To build excitement around the nomination, there will be a Pep Rally at the Dufferin County Museum this Saturday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community is invited to attend the event to celebrate Mulmur Township’s nomination and create support for the online vote.

“Winning would allow Mulmur Township to be recognized for its deep music roots and its role in shaping Canadian music history,” says Mr. Crosby.

Everything will be free at the event, including a barbeque, popcorn, and cotton candy.

There will be a Township documentary speaking about the history of music in Mulmur and Mayor Paul Mills will be speaking at approximately 12.30 p.m.

Set to entertain the crowd are musicians Devin Cuddy, Vanessa Lio & Ray Melana, Gary Heaslip, Ted Forbes with Jeremy Taggart acting as the Master of Ceremonies for the event.

“The Township is excited to be chosen for this opportunity,” says Heather Hayes, Deputy Mayor of Mulmur. “Mulmur’s history includes music in many forms, from concerts to local jams in community halls. Our Township is now home to many musicians who have found a quiet home in the magnificent hills of Mulmur. We look forward to the larger community coming together to support Mulmur in this exciting contest.”

Dufferin County Museum and Archives is located at 936029 Airport Road at Hwy 89 about 15 minutes east of Shelburne.
