On Tuesday July 5, Enbridge Gas Distribution, who is partnering with the Fire Marshall’s  Public Fire Safety council were on hand to present the Shelburne and District Fire Department with a $5,000 credit to be used towards purchasing firefighter training materials from the Safety Council.

Project Assist is a program that supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in communities where Enbridge operates.

This year, Enbridge has donated $100,000 which will be shared by twenty Ontario Fire Departments. “Safety is a priority at Enbridge and we are proud to support Ontario firefighters who share in our commitment to help keep our communities safe,” said Mark Wilson of Enbridge Gas.

Since the launch of the Project Assist in 2012, 84 Ontario Fire Departments have additional firefighter training.

“We plan to use the funds to update and refresh our firefighter training library here at the station,” Chief Brad Lemaich tells the Free Press. “We will purchase various formats of training materials to ensure our firefighters are training to the most current standards and practices.

“We are very pleased to be selected to receive this funding and truly appreciate Enbridge Gas’s commitment to safety in the communities they service.”

“The Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council is proud to partner with Enbridge Gas Distribution for Project Assist,” says Arthur Pullan, Executive Director of the fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council. Firefighting is a dangerous and unpredictable profession and firefighters need to be prepared for any hazardous situation. Project Assist helps fire departments access a variety of training materials to supplement their regular training programs and ultimately contributes to the firefighter safety on the job.”

Notes Lemaich: “We certainly appreciate the support from Enbridge. It helps us to boost our training resources, yet eases budget concerns, allowing us to ensure our resident get the best service possible from our department.”
