Support local artists – for free: “Live Art in the Park” continues this weekend

Troupe-Adore, a local group of visual and performing artists, is working hard to bring live art events to the community.

Many of their events, like Live Art in the Park, which will take place again this weekend are absolutely free to the public.

Live Art in the Park takes place this Friday evening, August 26; Saturday, August 27 from 12 noon – 5 p.m.; and Sunday, August 28 from 12 noon – 5 p.m. in Jack Downing Park on Main Street Shelburne.

The free, family-friendly event includes live music, art showings, interactive art and demonstrations, face painting, henna tattoos, and an open mic session open to performers in all artistic disciplines.

This weekend will also include “Trinkets for Troupe-Adore,” a donations-only yard sale to help raise funds to aid the group’s enthusiastic efforts for live art in Shelburne.

As well as free events, the group has planned some ticketed events later in the year: a theatrical performance – Norm Fosters’ Storm Warning November 5, 6, 12, and 13 at the Shelburne Curling Club; as well as a Halloween Musical Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at the Curling Club on October 29.

These events will help support all of Troupe-Adore’s artistic work in the community. Check out www.troupeadore.ca for more information on these and other upcoming events.

Those area residents lucky enough to stop by Jack Downing Park in Shelburne and spend some time at Live Art in the Park on the first weekend, of the two weekend long event, were treated to excellent music by Shelburne’s singer-song writers Sohayla and Adian Smith and Country Singer Nicky Lee. Nicky Lee, from Kitchener, is currently recording the sound track for “One Ride at a Time”- a documentary on the Canadian rodeo scene. Also on stage were local impromptu “open mic” performers, including vocal soloists as well as instrumentalists.

Excellent art showings by Dufferin artists, Natalie Graf-Lancaster, Marcus Fessler and Robert Allen, featured this past weekend, will continue, along with the performance artists, August 26, 27, and 28th with some new additions:

Lovely Jack Downing Park is an excellent small event, outdoor space that is largely underutilized in Shelburne. Troupe-Adore project lead, Sohayla Smith says she is hoping to change that – to make it a space that comes to life with art and artists for the benefit and pleasure of the community.

Like all volunteer jobs, Live Art in the Park is the result of a lot of hard work, organizing, and late nights to bring everything together for the event.

All that is asked in return is that the public come out and enjoy it…for free.
