One of the organizers of the Shelburne Health and Wellness Expo, Amanda Phillips, says attendance more than doubled last Saturday at their third annual event.
Held in the cafeteria at Centre Dufferin High School, the Expo hosted registered practitioners, alternative healers, fitness professionals, health and wellness products, and nutritious food vendors.
“When I chatted with the vendors, and visitors, there was definitely a common theme heard throughout the day,” Ms. Phillips says. “People are surprised to find out what is available in Shelburne. They come to the event and can’t believe the health and wellness options on their doorstep.”
She added, “I think it’s important for the community to know that there really is no reason to leave town to get the majority of their health, wellness, and fitness needs met. Everything is right here,” says Ms. Phillips.
“If I noticed any trends,” she says, “It’s that people seemed most interested in alternative healing and meditation. Residents are seeking holistic healing, as well as emotional healing and nutrition.”
Organizers have said their goal is to give practitioners and professionals in the health, wellness and fitness community a way to reach the people in Shelburne, and an opportunity to engage people, share their knowledge, explain what they do and how their products or services can benefit residents.
Besides the 36 vendors that the Expo included, talks and workshops were also featured at the event. Ms. Phillips reports those were all well attended, with walk-ins joining in with pre-registered guests.
The day’s events also included physical demonstrations from martial arts studios in Shelburne, yoga instructors, and “movement as medicine” dance instructors. Healthy Cravings Holistic Kitchen and Shine Baking Co. were on site with delicious and nutritious food choices.
Ms. Phillips says the Health and Wellness Expo will definitely be back next year with more vendors and new workshops.
