The summer break is coming to an end, and soon students will be making their way back to school. Giant Tiger Shelburne is giving a helping hand to local students through their annual back-to-school initiative.

Throughout the month of August, Giant Tiger has partnered with local non-profit organization G.E.T Outreachworks to collect donations of much needed school supplies.

Andrew Lewis, owner of the local Giant Tiger, told the Free Press that for the last five years they’ve worked with a number of organizations for the back-to-school imitative.

“A local resident saw the need, saw that children needed some back to school supplies and we know there has been some stress on the financial aspect for many families,” said Lewis.

“They came up with the initiative to start gather school supplies and we provided the vehicle for them to do it.”

Customers can donate school supplies by purchasing them from Giant Tiger’s back-to-school department.

“If there’s a community group or individual that needs our help we try to work a system so that we can assist them, and we have a lot of different way we do it, whether it’s fundraising inside the store, or buying merchandise and donating it,” said Lewis.

Items being donated include backpacks, lunch bags, reusable water bottles as well as pens, pencils and binders.
