Canada Day will be celebrated across the county this coming weekend, and towns throughout Dufferin County have plenty of events planned for residents to mark the occasion.
Canada Day Pancake and Sausage Breakfast at the Shelburne Legion:
The Shelburne Legion will host a Canada Day Breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday (July 1), with tickets costing $10 for adults and $6 for seniors and children. The Shelburne Legion will also hold a cornhole tournament at 1 p.m. with an entrance fee of $10 and signups at 12 p.m.
Canada Day Celebrations at Fiddle Park in Shelburne:
The Shelburne Canada Day Festival Committee has organized a fun-filled family event at Fiddle Park from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Activities planned for the day include the Keller Williams Fun Zone, a vendor’s market and a car show from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by live music from Sandy Harron and the Matlockes at 7. Fireworks will be set off at dusk.
A public swim will also be held at Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Mulmur and Melancthon Strawberry Festival Supper:
Residents of Mulmur and Melancthon can enjoy Canada Day celebrations with the Strawberry Festival on Saturday (July 1). Held at the North Dufferin Community Centre, there will be activities and kids’ games from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. followed by a dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets at the door will cost $20 for adults, $10 for children aged 6-12, and free for those under 5.
Orangeville Legion Canada Day
Parking-lot Party:
The Orangeville Legion invites the community to attend their parking-lot party to celebrate Canada Day on Saturday (July 1), starting at noon. The family event will include an opening ceremony featuring the legion’s Colour Party, entertainment by Neal Welch, a barbeque, and a birthday cake.
Canada Day Celebrations with the Town of Orangeville:
The Town of Orangeville is inviting the community to take part in Canada Day festivities that will be fun for the whole family.
Orangeville’s Canada Day event will take place at the Alder Recreation Centre from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. It will include activities such as Global Pet Foods’ Superdogs show, bouncy castles, an obstacle course, face painting, a rock wall, and a photo booth.
The Canada Day celebrations will wrap up with a concert at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m. at Island Lake Conservation Area.
“Canada Day provides an opportunity to celebrate our home and reflect on our nation’s history,” said Orangeville Mayor Lisa Post. “It’s also an opportunity to acknowledge the work that has been done, and the work yet to be done, on Canada’s journey towards reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Orangeville is a diverse, welcoming, inclusive community and I hope resident will join me in reflection and celebration this Canada Day.”
Chicken Dinner and Fireworks for Canada Day in East Garafraxa:
The Township of East Garagraxa will celebrate Canada Day with a Chicken Dinner and Fireworks display hosted by the Orton Community Association. The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at St. John’s Community Church in East Garafraxa and will include a bike rodeo for ages 4-12, a 50/50 draw, and a local vendor’s market.
Canada Day Fireworks and Car Show in Grand Valley:
Celebrate Canada’s 156th birthday with the Grand Valley BIA, who will be hosting their third annual Canada Day Weekend Classic Car Show. Everyone is welcome to bring out their cars and trucks to Main Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is on a first-come, first-served basis and has a $10 entry fee (cash only).
The Grand Valley BIA will close out the evening with a fireworks display at dusk (around 9:30 p.m.) at the Grand Valley Agricultural Society Ground beside the community centre. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket.
