Shelburne rocks at the Battle of the Bands

Talent! Talent! Talent! And it all happened in Shelburne, Wednesday, August 7 at the Shelburne Arena as the Battle of the Bands wowed those fortunate enough to hear.

Although both audience attendance and competitors were lower in number than in previous years, quality prevailed once again making Shelburne the place to be to hear great music of every genre.

First up in performing sequence was the young and talented The Hollow Sea which was described by lead singer, Nick Couture as a hard core band. Though the music is not mainstream, the quality and talent shone through undeniably. The band members are from Shelburne and Orangeville, have been playing for three years together and have been performing all over Southern Ontario.  Complete with fans proudly wearing their band’s logo on T-shirts, this is a band followers of this kind of music better be on the watch for in the future. Guitarist Ryan Bauerle has this to say, “ It’s great to compete but also it’s great to support the Rotary Club.” Go to their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/thehollowseato download their music for free and see what you missed out on if you didn’t make the battle.

Next up, and also from Shelburne and surrounding area, were newcomers, having only played together for eight months,  Hit Disturbers, dazzled crowds with Classic Rock and even some Johnny Cash. It was their first time performing at the Battle of The Bands and they didn’t disappoint, attracting a different fan base from The Hollow Sea, feet were tapping and some audience members even tried to sing along. Visit this band at their facebook page and see YouTube videos marking their progress since the band’s inception.  https://www.facebook.com/TheHitDisturbers

Third up, performing last in the list of competitors was Wasted Measures, not new to the competition having attended the past two years. Lead Singer, Luke Ryan described why the band enjoys coming to Shelburne to compete saying, “The competition not only brings local together, it gives bands a chance to showcase to the community.”

A visit to this band’s facebook page will reveal the diversity of talent and range of ability as the members easily transition from pop to reggae, punk rock, classic rock, grunge and the list goes on. Appealing to a wide fan base this band clearly does not limit themselves to a type of music perhaps creating a new genre where bands are not restricted to a single style of performance. Limitless talent is expected by all for next year’s battle. https://www.facebook.com/wastedmeasures

Rotary President, Frank Fender and host of the event points out, “This is the third time we’ve hosted the Battle of the Bands and although I am disappointed because there are not more bands, and more people in attendance, it’s still a great charitable event. All money earned will go to charity.”

Fender was eager for a huge crowd as crowd shout outs and applause is how the competitors are judged. Whichever band raised the roof more, was the winner. That being said, Hit Disturbers took first place winning $1000, Wasted Measures took second winning $700.00, and Hollow Sea took third winning $300.

Any way you slice it, Shelburne’s Battle of The Bands was another success that hopes to welcome all three bands back again and hopefully even more bands will attend in support of the Rotary Club.
