The Royal Canadian Legion Shelburne Branch 220 had the honour of hosting the organization’s District Youth Public Speaking Contest on Saturday, April 20.
The speakers were Primary students from grades 1-3, Juniors from grades 4-6, Intermediate from grades 7-9 and Seniors in Grade 11 and 12.
The district competition was a step towards the Provincial competition being held in Toronto in May, and the four winners from each age group will move on.
There were several different topics from the students who delivered speeches, from “being short” and “fear” to “what came first the chicken or the egg?”
These talented young students had the audience in awe with their speeches and the judges, Dawn Young, Wade Mills and Ed Crewson, had the difficult task of choosing just one winner from each age group.
The Shelburne Legion would like to thank the many volunteers who made this such a special day, from the timekeepers, the food preparers, to the judges, these events wouldn’t be possible without them.
Good luck to the four winners, Saina, Jocelyn, Natalie and Carolyn who will move on to the finals.
