McDonald’s Canada has recognized the work accomplishments and dedication of a local restaurant manager with a national award.

Karina Martin, manager of the Shelburne McDonald’s, has been presented with the 2024 Outstanding Manager of the Year award. It’s a recognition that highlights her as part of the top five per cent of managers across the 1400-plus McDonald’s restaurants in Canada.

“Martin works diligently beside her crew members each day to serve quality food with excellent service and a warm smile to restaurant guests across Shelburne,” said McDonald’s Canada in a recent press release.

Martin started working for McDonald’s 25 years ago at the front counter position for the Collingwood McDonald’s. Since then, she’s worked at various McDonald’s locations, including Alliston, Angus, and Orangeville. She was promoted to manager at the Caledon location in 2016 before moving to the Shelburne location.

“This award means a great deal to me. It’s a recognition of not just my efforts and hard work but also the entire restaurant team,” said Martin.

“I hired some [of the] crew when they were just teenagers and it’s so great to watch them grow and to see the whole team perform and receive this award together.”

Every year, McDonald’s franchisees and regional management nominate restaurant managers from across the country for the Outstanding Manager of the Year award to recognize their hard work, dedication and commitment to McDonald’s Canada and its guests.

“From the very beginning, Karina had a passion for people development. She fully understood that she was only as good as her team,” said Sarah Douglas, restaurant franchisee. “We speak a lot about McDonalds being ‘One Team.’ Karina proves it every shift she works. She coaches this motto while training her team. She serves and connects with the community understanding that they too are on her team. When she achieves results, she celebrates with the belief that it was ‘One Team’ who worked together that made what seems impossible, possible.”
