Terry Fox Run making a difference

September 13, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Dear editor:

With just a few days to go, participants, volunteers and donors across Ontario are gearing up for what has truly become a Canadian tradition – The Terry Fox Run.

Now in its 33rd year, the non-competitive, non-sponsored, family-fun event raises money for cancer research. In 2012, the Terry Fox Foundation invested $29.3 million in cancer research all while keeping operating costs as low as possible, with 84 cents of every dollar raised going toward research.

And that research is working. On September 5th, a Terry Fox Foundation-funded study moved forward significantly with their Early Lung Cancer Detection Study being published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine.

The Run is held in more than 220 locations throughout Ontario. There is no entry fee, and no minimum donation or pledges are required to participate. Supporters can run or walk the 10km course (all sites have shorter routes) and at most locations, ride a bike and rollerblade.
