Windowless classrooms wave of the future for UGDSB?

October 16, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Dear editor:

Princess Elizabeth Public School (located in Welland, Ontario) is undergoing much needed renovations. However, for some of this year’s kindergarten classes the prospects are dim, literally. In planning these renovations, at least one windowless classroom has been created to house kindergarten classes this year.  And, this classroom isn’t slated to go away after the renovations are complete! In talking with school’s superintendent, Ms. Talbot, this windowless classroom is scheduled to become a regular classroom, although in the future it is not intended for kindergarten children, but would be used for older children. The question remains, why was this plan ever given approval in the first place. My questions to the school’s principal, to the board trustee’s and to the school superintendent have apparently been the first. So this letter goes out to all parents that missed the ‘meet the teacher night’ in this classroom, to those parents whose children might end up in this classroom in future years, and to any parent that would be surprised to learn that windowless classrooms are now being approved for children in the Upper Grand District School Board: please contact your trustee and voice your opinion on this matter (Bob.Borden@ugdsb.on.ca; Mark.Bailey@ugdsb.on.ca).

Deb Walks,

Amaranth
