For Shelburne Redwings fans, this season has turned into a waiting game after another disappointing loss on Friday night at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Centre.
The Redwings are winless this season and took another hit at their home game losing 10–1 to the Orangeville Americans.
Friday night’s game turned into a shooting gallery when the Americans scored four in the first period then did the same in the second frame to lead 8–0 going into the final twenty minutes.
The only Shelburne goal came in the third when Ethan Beardy robbed the Orangeville goalie of the shut-out at 4:17 into the period.
Despite switching goalies, the Redwings had a lot of trouble stopping the aggressive Orangeville squad who were hard hitting on the fore-check.
By the time the third period got underway, the Americans let up and started dumping the puck.
The twenty team Greater Metro Hockey League is spread out all over this season with a few runaway teams at the top of the pack.
The Bradford Bulls are in first place winning 14 of 15 games so far and losing one in an overtime loss.
Tamsicaming is positioned in the number two spot with a 13–2 record.
They are followed by South Muskoka in third place with 24 points after 13 games.
At the other end of the spectrum, three teams have won only twice this year.
Lefroy, Toronto Predators and Sturgeon Falls are are struggling, with Bobcaygeon and Mattawa winning only three after 12 games in.
The Redwings have added a few players to the line-up but are still waiting to bolster their ranks with some players from overseas.
The Redwings won’t have a home game this coming weekend.
Instead they will be on the road travelling up to Mattawa to take on the Voyageurs with a 7:15 start.
They will return to home ice the following Friday, November 8, to host the Bracebridge Phantoms.
The puck drop for that game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex.
