We are currently working on quite a few new initiatives so please stay tuned as we roll them out.
We have been collecting and purchasing some Lego blocks and sets so that within the next few weeks we will be starting a Lego club after school for our young folks. Check this column and our website for the date and times.
Food for Fines – we will be supporting the Firefighters drive for food again this year. There will be a box in our lobby for contributions of non-perishable food items from November 14 to December 14th.
If you are bringing food in lieu of your fines, please discuss that with one of the staff to ensure that the fines are removed from your file.
By partnering with the Firefighters, we look forward to making this an especially meaningful Christmas for families in the community who need our support.
Dufferin Reads:
One Book One County
The librarians from Orangeville, Grand Valley and of course, Shelburne and the folks at Book Lore are busy reading many Canadian books to find our new book and author for the coming year’s community “book club”. We had our first meeting this week and already we are mulling over quite a few possibilities.
Library Literary Event:
Off the Page with John Riley
I’m very excited and very much looking forward to our next author presentation, scheduled for Sunday, November 17th at 2:00pm. This promises to be a very informative and interesting presentation. Please call the library and reserve your ticket. It is a free event but we are asking that you reserve a ticket to help us with our planning. John will be discussing his new book The Once and Future Great Lakes Country: An Ecological History. It is a passionate, wide-ranging history of the landscapes around the Great Lakes, chronicling centuries of upheaval and modern trajectories of change. We have a copy of the book in the library but as interest increases, there are a few holds on it. We invite you to come even if you have not read it because you will surely want to once you find out more about this topic!
Library Silent Auction & Book Sale
The Library’s Annual Silent Auction & Book Sale is just around the corner, so be sure to write it in your calendars for Saturday, November 30th. We have already received some beautiful items for the silent auction, and some great reading material for our famous book baskets. As the event approaches, we will provide further details.
