CDDHS Royals squeezed out in home game

November 21, 2013   ·   0 Comments

A strong defence can make a good offence, and that made a big difference in  Tuesday’s (Nov. 12) game when the Centre Dufferin District High School Royals hockey team hosted the squad from Our Lady of Lourdes at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex.

The Royals were behind 2–1 in the second period and battling hard to keep the puck out of their zone.

The Royals single came from Michael Fuller on the assist from Ty McCallum.

The OLOL team got the edge when they notched number three with 13:04 left on the clock.

Neither team could find the back of the net for the rest of the game and the Royals had to settle for the loss.

At three games into the season the Royals have a 1–2 record with eight games left.

“I don’t think we played as good as we could have,” said coach Rob Scott. “They had some systems, we noticed they were good a pinching in at their blue line and making up for that. If we caught them pinching, their forwards were still coming back. We didn’t adjust to that too well. They had us looking behind a lot in the second period.”

Offensively the Royals looked strong but they had a lot of trouble getting through the OLOL defensive line and getting the puck out to the front of the net.

“We’ve got some guys that flat-out work their butts off on every shift,” Scott said. “I’m never going to challenge our guy’s work ethic. Our goalie (Bryce Dillman) played very well today. I don’t want to take anything away from OLOL but that’s our poorest of the three games this season.”

The Royals will be away for their next game on Friday, November 22.

They will return to home ice on Tuesday, November 27, to host John F. Ross CVI at the CDRC. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
