Working together for Shelburne’s Christmas Hamper Program

Shelburne’s Community Service Clubs pool resources, dedication, and labour generously donating their time to ensure Christmas can be enjoyed by as many as possible during tough economic times.

Lynn Topping, Volunteer Co-ordinator for the Christmas Hamper and Christmas Assistance Program revealed that last year’s group of contributors included the Shelburne Rotary Club, Shelburne Kinsmen, Shelburne Lion’s Club, Shelburne Kinettes, Shelburne’s Police, Dufferin Wind Power, KTH, Dufferin, Retired Teachers Association, Trinity United Church (Women’s Auxiliary), Hyland Heights Elementary School, Centennial Hylands Elementary School, Primrose Elementary School, Dufferin Dairy Farmers, Centre Dufferin High School, Woollys Yarns, Shelburne Masons and many generous anonymous donations resulted in helping approximately 200 people within the community of Shelburne over the holidays.

All donations for the Christmas Hamper Program and Christmas Assistance Program get processed at the Mel Lloyd Centre and Topping’s gratitude is second only to her drive and determination to make it all possible as she points out, “ We can’t do any of this without community support and the group effort from all the Community Service Clubs working together. One of the most moving donations I received for the program came from a couple with adult children and instead of getting themselves presents they donated to us. It’s really wonderful,” commented Topping.

Drop off locations for toys, toiletries and gifts are the RBC Royal Bank, TD Canada Trust, People’s Credit Union, Shelburne Town Hall, Woolly’s Yarns, Hyland Heights Elementary School, Centennial Hylands Elementary School, Primrose Elementary School, Glenbrook Elementary School Centre Dufferin High School, and KTH.

These much needed and extremely appreciated hampers include food items, food vouchers, gift vouchers, new books, pajamas, socks, hats mittens, gloves and scarves and as most parents can attest, kids and mittens, can you ever have enough?

Just another example of a community pulling together, taking care of their own, and revealing yet again, Shelburne may be small but we are mighty!
