The Rosemont General Store was the recipient of the 2013 Taste of Tourism, Best Customer Service Experience Award for a business. They were bestowed the honour by the Hills of Headwaters Tourism Association in November 2013.
Owner Janice O’Born, who has had a farm in the area for 26 years, attributes the win to her dedicated staff. They are genuinely pleased to treat their customers well and excited about the changes happening at the store.
Built in 1862, the Rosemont General Store has been a post office and grocery store to locals for over a century.
Now it is a gift and gourmet shop with local and specialty items. Gift shop merchandise is exclusively Canadian made by some of the best artisans near and far.
With a new extension planned, the store is entering the next chapter in its long life. As well as fundamental improvements like a new roof, windows, well, and septic system, an additional 1,000 feet are being built on the back. A 30-seat café and professional kitchen will include a woodburning pizza oven. The plans will not change the original building and existing historic features will remain intact.
Five picture windows will overlook the pretty Mulmur countryside to the north, and the front will have a porch for warm weather use. Renovations are expected to be completed by summer 2014.
Things may soon look a little different at the Rosemont store, but the local men are still meeting for morning coffee, and Laura still makes her luscious pies.
