We have certainly had enough news, discussion etc, about the snow in the past week and many reminisces about this is the “worst winter in memory”; like the “olden time winters”… and so on.

However, with only minor shutdowns, we were able to keep the library open and serve many folks who were able to walk and not place themselves in a dangerous situation.

I spent several days last weekend attending the Ontario Library Conference in Toronto. This is one of the largest library conferences in North America with between three and four thousand attendees. It doesn’t get much bigger than that! This year was the 20th Anniversary of the conference … just think, 20 some years ago I was one of the key organizers of that conference. I remember some of the amazing keynote speakers we had back then but truly this year, I heard some very inspirational speakers. Richard Wagamese, author of Indian Horse really made an impact on me and definitely on others in the audience. Miranda Hill, wife of author Lawrence Hill, spoke about her Bookmark project which places Book mark plaques throughout Canada. Each plaque is a significant marker for a place about which a Canadian author has written. I had a great opportunity to talk to Hilary Davidson, a mystery writer who is launching a new book this spring. There is a very good chance she will be here for one of our Sunday afternoon literary events.

Children’s Programs: We had some new additions to our Toddler Story and Play time this Tuesday and we certainly welcome any other parents with toddlers to join us on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Lego Club: It is really amazing to watch the growth of our Lego Club and the fun we are all having. We had 33 children last week and more have signed up for this week. They are building such interesting vehicles and other items and we are proud to display them behind the circulation desk till the next week and then we start all over again. Grace has developed some neat Board games and other activities to integrate literacy skills as they play.
