David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, was re-elected as President of the all-Party Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association for the sixth consecutive time on Tuesday, February 4th, at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ottawa.

“It’s an honour and privilege to be re-elected as President of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association” said Mr. Tilson. “The work of the Association continues to be of utmost importance for Canada’s interests, considering our Government’s work to negotiate a historic free trade deal with the European Union (EU) last year. However, many areas of concern with the deal remain and the Association will be fully engaged, while also making preparations to host the 11th Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region in Whitehorse, Yukon, from September 08 – 11, 2014.”

Mr. Tilson has served as President of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association since March 2008 and has also been a member of the Executive Committee since 2004. The Association aims to facilitate exchanges between parliamentarians in Canada, and representatives from various European institutions with the objectives of promoting Canadian interests and fostering mutual cooperation.

In his role as President of the Association, Mr. Tilson leads Canadian delegations traveling to Europe, as he did last November, when the delegation traveled to Athens, Greece, and met with members of the Greek Parliament, as Greece currently holds the presidency of the EU. The delegation also traveled to Zagreb, Croatia, and met with Croatian parliamentarians, as Croatia is the newest country to join the EU. Mr. Tilson also hosts European officials when they visit Canada.
