The first game of the playoffs pitted the two Shelburne Wolves local league teams against each other in Bantam hockey action at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex on Saturday, February 8.

The two teams, LL1 wearing the white jerseys and LL2 wearing the dark blue, met for a 1:30 p.m. game to start the round-robin playoff series.

LL2 opened the scoring in the first period when Cam Newton placed a shot between the pads of LL1 goalie Joe Wollett early in the game.

The LL1 squad tied it up, but again the LL2 team put on the pressure scoring three more to end the frame on goals from Brandon Way, and two from Luke Russell.

The LL1 response came from a single from Sawyer Kersten to make it a 4–2 game.

Going into the third period with a clean sheet of ice, both squads stepped it up a notch in a final battle to take the game.

This time the LL1 squad put the pressure on, scoring two third period markers from Kyle Burke and another from Sawyer Kersten.

The LL2 team took the win with a final goal from Carter Ferrier to leave the ice with a 5–4 victory.

The LL1 teams put six attackers on the ice in a late game bid to tie it up, but they couldn’t find the back of the net before the buzzer sounded.

“It was a very good game,” Said LL2 coach Rob Newton. “We got a lot of good bounces and a lot of good shots on net.”

The round-robin style playoffs means the teams will now go on to meet squads from Collingwood, Oro, and Midland.

After playing it out in eight games, the top two teams will play in the finals and the third and fourth place teams will play for the ‘B’ consolation.
