Police suspect identification results in charges, warrants and convictions throughout Ontario

Shelburne Police continued to actively investigate several quick change artist thefts that occurred at retail businesses in town from 2009 through 2013.

In October 2013 the investigation led to the identification of the suspect responsible for these thefts. On October 28th 2013, a 36 year old Toronto resident Kibrom Yemesgen was arrested and charged with eight theft related charges by Shelburne Police.

On January 23rd 2014 Yemesgen was convicted of theft and possession of property obtained by crime at the Dufferin Court House.

As a result of this identification, Yemesgen has been arrested and charged by numerous police services throughout Ontario for similar offences. These police services include Toronto Police, Ottawa Police, Smith Falls Police and Brockville Police. York Regional Police has a warrant for his arrest.

Although each individual theft in Shelburne was under $100 in value, Yemesgen has clearly been victimizing dozens of businesses all over southern Ontario for many years. The total impact of his criminal activity is significant.

If anyone has any information in relation to this case or any other criminal activity, they are encouraged to contact the Shelburne Police Service at 519-925-3312 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com
