You may be receiving this message a few days early but reminders are always good! Stop in and pick out one or two of our many romance books to get in the mood for that special day! We have lots for your enjoyment.
I have just finished reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s latest book, The Signature of All Things. She wrote Eat, Pray, Love and Committed which were memoirs. I enjoyed them because they certainly set out some humorous and poignant real life experiences. This current book is a much weightier tome than the others and it took me quite some time to read. I am quite a fast reader but found this one a challenge. What I really wonder is how much research Gilbert would need to have done to write this book. It spans the 18th and 19th centuries and envelopes the life of one family and an outstanding member, Alma. She becomes a foremost botanist with her questing and adventurous spirit driving her at a time when all assumptions about the role of women, science, religion commerce and class were exploding into new and confusing ideas.
Not only is the book abounding with theories and knowledge but intertwined are several love stories and compelling insights into a wealthy family life during those times.
One other speaker who was at the Ontario Library Conferences was Chris Hadfield. As you know from just watching his vignettes on TV as the Canadian Commander of the Space Station, he is an articulate and fascinating individual. This presentation was no exception as he brought his whole experience into an incredibly meaningful and intimate depiction of feelings and photographs that connected the audience and left us spellbound.
We just received a great new shipment of very current Large Print Books and Talking Books. We expect them to be on the shelves within the week.
