On February 1st, 2014 Constable Paul Neumann from the Shelburne Police Service was presented with ‘The Rising Flame Award’ at the Special Olympics Annual Workshop and Awards Banquet in Orillia.

“Constable Neumann does an outstanding job with organizing the Special Olympics Torch Run on behalf of our police service,” said Kent Moore, Chief of Police, Shelburne Police Service. “I greatly appreciate the many volunteer hours he has put into this event and the professional manner in which he represents the Shelburne Police Service throughout the organizing stage and at the event itself”.

“Even more important is the fact that his efforts were pivotal in raising over $25,000 for Special Olympics over the past two years,” added Moore. “One of the Special Olympians was interviewed during the 2013 event and he talked about the importance of sports and also the importance of what’s in your heart. Constable Neumann’s efforts have resulted in a real impact on some very special people. We are proud of the difference he is making in our community”.

The Rising Flame award is to recognize an individual who shows exceptional promise of leadership and continued contribution to the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run. Constable Neumann has met the following criteria:

• Demonstrated a high level of commitment to the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

• Offered additional assistance to the Law Enforcement Torch Run or local Special Olympics programs that is above that of what was expected.

• Encourages other Law Enforcement personnel to become involved.

• Shows commitment to continually improve the Law Enforcement Torch Run relationship with the community, media and Special Olympics.

• Shows a desire to continue to be involved with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for many years and is recognized by the nominee as an individual that may be future leader within the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Congratulations Constable Neumann on this prestigious honour!
